Investing in emerging leaders
Acts 20:4 “And he [Paul] was accompanied by Sopater of Berea, the son of Pyrrhus, and by Aristarchus and Secundus of the Thessalonians, and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy, and Tychicus and Trophimus of Asia.”
Just like Jesus, Paul placed priority on developing the next generation of leaders. He understood the value of ‘team’ and learning in community, recognized the importance of modeling and ‘with-ness’ (creating an environment in which emerging leaders can learn from more mature leaders in an up close and personal way), facilitated experiential on-the-job learning while on mission, and gradually entrusted emerging leaders with greater responsibility as they developed. Sadly, most of these key elements are missing from leader development today. How about you? Are you investing in younger leaders?
