“By my Spirit”, says the Lord
In about 520 BC, along with Joshua the high priest, Zerubbabel was tasked with the responsibility to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. It was a monumental responsibility, and the challenges were many. During this period, God spoke to the prophet Zechariah through an angelic being in a vision. The prophet was told that Zerubbabel would not overcome the obstacles and complete the temple through corporate or individual strength and ability. It would be by the Spirit.
Zechariah 4:6 Then he said to me, “This is the word of YHVH to Zerubbabel saying, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says YHVH of hosts. 7 ‘What are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become a plain; and he will bring forth the top stone with shouts of “Grace, grace to it!”’”
Today, we co-labor with Jesus in building His church. Jesus said, “I will build my Church”, and he calls us to labor with him. However. too many church leaders endeavor to operate in their own wisdom and ability. They rely on human schemes to accomplish divine purposes. The Church (people, not buildings) is God’s temple. It is holy. One cannot build this temple with “human hands” or in human wisdom. This is a work of the Lord Jesus, and it must be done in and by the Spirit.
As Paul said in Colossians 1:28-29,” We proclaim Him, admonishing every person and teaching every person with all wisdom, so that we may present every person complete (fully developed, matured) in Christ. For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me.”
Man-made efforts will fail; but that which is wrought by the Spirit will endure. Remember, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit” says YHVH.
