In This Is Love
One of the chief characteristics of the Lord Jesus as a leader is his love for people. Like Jesus did with disciples in the gospels, he calls us to follow him and become like him. This means loving people like he does!
1 John 4:9 “By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
The Greek word for ‘propitiation’ speaks of that which completely satisfies God’s justice regarding sin. Jesus loves us so much that he willingly sacrificed himself, taking on our sin, thus removing this horrific burden and barrier, so that we can be reconciled to God. Because he first loved us, we can now love and serve others in his name.
As the apostle John stated, “We love, because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19).
